My husband loves meat…He’s always loved meat. Any kind of meat; steak, hamburgers, italian sausages, chicken, lamb, ribs, pork chops…On one of our first dates ever, we were at a restaurant and I remember him saying, “I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy.” That stuck with me throughout our 17 years of being together and, while I did not want to take away his precious love for meat, I did consider it a challenge to mature his palette. LETs experience this, together.
Being half-Korean, I honestly could not allow him to stay just a “meat and potatoes kind of guy…” so….naturally, I did what any girlfriend/wife does and I forced him to try and try and try all different kinds of foods, especially the spicy foods, because spicy is MY favorite! He needed to re-train his palette. Then, my Korean mama took over and that poor guy didn’t know what was about to hit him. She also does not take “NO” for an answer. Chris quickly learned whatever Mama Chin made, we ate. No questions asked. I remember visiting my parents’ house years back when our relationship was pretty fresh and new. I walked into the kitchen and witnessed Chris dry-heaving, asking me for a cup of water in between gasps. Apparently, Mama Chin offered him a small, spicy dried fish…They are these tiny fish the size of a paper clip that you eat whole. They are bite-sized hate. When he regained the ability to talk again and explained what happened, I warned him (a little too late), “Oh, baby, we don’t eat the small, spicy dried fish. They are too spicy even for me!” I am pretty sure that is the day he won my mama over. She got a good laugh out of it. Now a days, she will bring over his favorite Korean dishes just because…Their relationship is really special and it makes me super happy.
What does this have to do with The Mancuterie? Well, today is our eight year anniversary and I wanted to give him a special gift. With his now matured palette (pat on back to Mama Chin and me), I reached out to Regina from The Cornichon, located in Sterling, VA, and asked her if she create a charcuterie board that had some unique items on it, but also….A LOT of meat. And, wow, did she deliver! This beautiful display of meats, cheeses, nuts, and berries (so many funny references I will leave to your discretion) was the PERFECT man gift to surprise my husband with. It was the perfect way for me to say that, after all these years, I still love that “meat and potatoes kind of guy.” I cannot recommend this enough and will be referring all my local friends to The Cornichon. Check out many of her boards on LoudounGo here. You can also reach out to her directly. All of the details and contacts are pictured below.

My absolute FAVORITE item on this board was the Harbison from Jasper Hill Creamery in Vermont. It’s wrapped in spruce bark and pairs wonderfully with raspberries. Make sure you ask if they have this in stock! Candied starfruits, oranges, and apricots paired well with the abundance of meats on this tray. There was even a hidden gem of a delectable, raw honey comb in there. We also really loved the figs, different nuts, and pre-sliced persimmon. Fine chocolates from The Conche in Village of Leesburg were divine and added a sweet touch to it all.
The truth is, I may change the name to a “MEcuterie,” because I actually really loved it all too! So much that that I decided to make a tiktok about it! Enjoy and Happy Man Gifting!
