This is the best dinner everrrr!!
~ Maverick
LET’s EAT! We celebrated Lunar New Year a bit differently this year! Instead of a giant spread of dumplings, tofu, and rice cake soup, we chose to experience this occasion by partnering with Ice Cream Jubilee and having ice cream for dinner! But not just any ice cream! We indulged in Lunar New Year inspired ice cream flavors! OH EM to the GEE!!! It took me back….like way back to my childhood in Korea. I knew I hit jackpot when my youngest son, Maverick, squealed, “This is the best dinner everrrr!!” The kids were ecstatic! We also had fun trying to eat it with chopsticks at first…at least until the boys (it’s always the boys) started using them as light sabers and swords, stabbing any bystander that got in their way! My lesson? Less Star Wars, more chopstick training. (Hiya!)

LET’s talk about the flavors: (ORDER HERE!!)
- Roasted Barley Tea (Poppy’s favorite)
- Citrus Sichuan Peppercorn
- Matcha Green Tea
- Red Bean Almond Cookie (My fave, but Thai Iced Tea a close 2nd)
- Thai Iced Tea (Chris’ fave)
- Coconut Lychee Lime Sorbet (Coco’s favorite)
(Disclaimer: Since Maverick has so many food allergies, we got him some oat ice cream so he could participate, as well!)
To those who grew up on these flavors, I know you understand the magic of the names and flavors within these pint-sized tubs. I also love that Ice Cream Jubilee infused some non-traditional flavors with the traditional ones to give a new zest to them. To some that may not have grown up with these flavors, they may sound a bit odd to you. My biggest advice is to grab a flight of them first at either of their two DC locations or their Arlington location, see which ones you like, and then get every pint-sized version of them you can before they sell out! I knew these flavors might sound odd to my kids since they didn’t grow up on these flavors so I did what any good mama would do; I didn’t tell them what flavors they were eating! And, ladies and gentlemen, it worked! My kids ate Sichuan Citrus Peppercorn and loved it! #winning

The red bean almond cookie took me back to my childhood when I lived in Seoul, Korea. I would always go to this little Korean market near our apartment called The Back Gate and snag a BB Big red bean popsicle from the first store on the left. There was always the nicest, Korean woman that worked there who would also send me on the way with a rice cake pop I never paid for! I will never forget her face and kindness, but I do wish I would have asked her name. That’s what this ice cream experience did for me this Lunar New Year, so thank you so much, Ice Cream Jubilee.
Some other really cool info I found out about ICJ is that all flavors are made locally with super-premium cream from local family farms. Ice Cream Jubilee has three locations in the DMV area:
LOCATIONS:
- Navy Yard DC, 14th
- T Street NW DC,
- Ballston Quarter, Arlington.
You can buy ice cream by the pint, by the scoop, or ship nationwide. Their flavors are also a featured local business at all Whole Foods Markets in DC, VA, and MD. Ice Cream Jubilee flavors change seasonally, but creative favorites like Cookie & Cookie Dough, Passionfruit Guava sorbet, and Honey Lemon Lavender are available all year.
